ABSTRACT
O presente trabalho teve como objetivo discutir, por meio da literatura e de exposição clínica, a Ortodontia em pacientes adultos. O tratamento ortodôntico no paciente adulto é possível, entretanto, são destacadas algumas limitações, tais como os problemas periodontais e as perdas dentárias. O relato de caso clínico apresentado teve o tratamento realizado de maneira multidisciplinar, eliminando os obstáculos da movimentação ortodôntica e com o acompanhamento direto do profissional da reabilitação. Concluiu-se, desta forma, que o tratamento reabilitador obtido através de um planejamento integrado permitiu a resolução do caso clínico de maneira satisfatória, rápida e com evidentes benefícios para o paciente.
The aim of this study was to discuss orthodontics in adult patients, by means of the literature and clinical exposition. It is possible to perform orthodontic treatment in adult patients, however, some limitations are pointed out, such as periodontal problems and lost teeth. In the clinical case report presented, multidisciplinary treatment was performed, eliminating the obstacles of orthodontic movement, and with direct follow-up by the Periodontist. Thus it was concluded that rehabilitative treatment obtained by means of integrated planning, allowed satisfactory and rapid resolution of the clinical case, with evident benefits for the patient.

Aim: To evaluate the fracture strength of ceramic brackets submitted to archwire torsional strain. Methods: Different types of maxillary central incisor ceramic brackets from four different commercial brands, Roth prescription (0.022" x 0.028"), were evaluated, namely: Mystique (GAC), InVu (TP Orthodontics), Clarity (3M Unitek) and Luxi II (RMO Ortohodontics). To evaluate the fracture strength, 0.019"x 0.025" stainless steel orthodontic wires were inserted into the bracket channels and submitted to torsion until they fractured. Results: The InVu brackets showed a significantly higher fracture strength than the other brackets (p<0.05), which did not differ significantly among them (p>0.05). Conclusions: Among the brackets tested, the traditional ceramic bracket InVu showed the highest fracture strength, while the Luxi II bracket, obtained the lowest value.

Inúmeras técnicas e aparelhos auxiliares têm sido desenvolvidos com o intuito de corrigir a má oclusão de Classe II, seja ela de origem esquelética ou dentária. O Sistema Ertty representa um desses sistemas intrabucais de forças biomecânicas para a distalização de molares superiores. O objetivo do presente artigo foi relatar casos clínicos tratados com sucesso por meio dessa técnica. Conclui-se que a distalização do molar ocorreu sem efeitos colaterais clinicamente significativos, levando à correção da relação de Classe II. O sistema movimentou todo o segmento posterior do lado que sofreu distalização com consequente correção da linha média superior.
